Division of Student Affairs

Putting the “Students” back in “Student Affairs.”

The Division of Student Affairs is responsible for all aspects of the Columbia University undergraduate experience – from admissions to graduation.

Despite their prominent role in student life, poor navigation and outdated content made their Web site one of the least frequently-visited on campus. After several months of research and focus groups, I found that both students and staff wanted roughly the same thing: an interactive Web site where they could easily find information on services offered by the Division.

The result is a newly redesigned site based in Drupal that allows student group members to interact with one another via a social networking platform based around student groups. Detailed profile data loaded from central university servers ensures that all information is highly targeted to students. Response has been incredibly positive, as students utilize the platform to interact and promote their student group activities in ways that were otherwise impossible before the site's launch.
